Halima Aden x Max Mara Fall rtw 2017
A woman dressed in western clothes and a hijab is a common sight across Europe’s capital cities. Although most certainly not a familiar site on fashion weeks infamous catwalks. Despite the controversy and negative stereotypes Halima Aden, a Somali-American model, is fast becoming fashion’s face of 2017, currently stealing the show at fashion week.
Aden, 19, who made her catwalk debut this month at Kanye West Yeezy season 5 show, she also walked for Alberta Ferretti and Max Mara show.

Recently signed to the IMG model agency, Aden stars on the cover of the latest issue of CR Fashion Book, Carine Roifeld’s prestigious magazine, photographed in a Louis Vuitton bodysuit by Mario Sorrenti.
“As Muslims, we need more positive stories, period,” Aden says of her success. “I felt so proud of the media, because for a very long time they were pushing this negative image of Muslims … I went in [for the beauty pageant] thinking that I want something positive for young Muslim girls. But I’ve heard stories from parents who are Christians, telling me: ‘Thank you, I want my seven-year-old daughter to know that you don’t have to be half-naked to be beautiful.’
This is literally amazing as I have recently wanted women to keep their clothes on and use the power of their mind to influence. Halima Aden is goals in a major way as she redefines a beauty standard one of the reasons I started blogging. Hopefully she continues gracing catwalks and inspiring somali born girls.
